Complex Shafts and advanced methods

MDESIGN shaft enables you to quickly and efficiently design, recalculate and optimize shafts in accordance with current norms and standards.

The additional advantages of MDESIGN shaft at a glance:

Compared to the shaft calculation in MDESIGN mechanical, the extended shaft calculation MDESIGN shaft includes additional functions and calculation options for:

  • Additional strength calculation according to FKM guideline
  • 3D geometry import via step interface
  • Shaft geometries with up to 100 steps
  • Conical fillets
  • Up to 12 bearing positions
  • Bending-critical speeds
  • Vertical Shafts and hollow shafts
  • Access to material databases, expandable with in-house data
  • Consideration of gyroscopic effects and bearing stiffnesses
  • Calculation of individual notches
  • Specification of individual notch factors

The design environment quickly determined

The proven MDESIGN user interface provides intuitive and effective support when defining the design boundary conditions of the application. Simply select the desired verification method (static or dynamic), define the geometry of the shaft using the graphic wizard (2D & 3D) and, thanks to the context-sensitive text help, enter all the necessary information on the type of load in no time at all. Important material properties (e.g. tensile strength, yield strength, modulus of elasticity, shear modulus) in accordance with DIN 743 Part 3 can be taken from the integrated MDESIGN database. Company-specific materials can also be easily added via the user database and are directly available for your shaft calculation.

Wave calculation made easy

Once the shaft geometry, bearing and load have been defined, MDESIGN shaft performs all the necessary calculations in a matter of seconds in order to safely design shafts and discover new optimization potential. This includes model data such as moments of inertia, volume data and weights. In addition, all important stresses and deflections are calculated. As part of the strength calculation in accordance with DIN 743, MDESIGN shaft provides all the necessary safety values. These include

  • Security against permanent breakage
  • Safety against flow
  • Static and dynamic safety

In addition, notch effect, shape and support numbers are calculated. Clear output graphics illustrate the calculation results visually and help you to interpret the strength analysis quickly and reliably. These include diagrams, charts and true-to-scale graphs of bending moments, shear forces, equivalent stresses, Safeties and more.

Graphical selection of notches

With MDESIGN shaft, you have a wide range of shaft types and specifications to choose from.

Additional calculations

MDESIGN shaft offers extended possibilities for shaft calculations, including individual notch factors, complex shaft geometries and bearing arrangements.

Import of 3D models via Step

MDESIGN shaft enables seamless import of 3D CAD shaft models via STEP format and supports the fast, precise evaluation of design changes.

detailed model analysis

MDESIGN shaft imports STEP models and interprets necessary notches automatically.

FKM method for complex Shafts

Even complex shaft geometries - imported via a 3D step interface - can be calculated using the FKM method

Seamless connection to all common CAD systems

By connecting MDESIGN shaft to all common CAD systems via the STEP format, you can import your 3D CAD shaft model directly. In addition, the new 3D graphics assistant supports you in modeling project-specific boundary conditions. This allows you to position supports, masses, forces, loads and moments directly on the model and evaluate design changes even faster and more precisely. All the necessary input variables for the mathematical strength verification are then transferred to the input mask at the click of a mouse. This makes time-consuming and error-prone manual data transfer a thing of the past.

Configurable calculation report with a click

Shaft calculation with strength verification in accordance with DIN 743 is not only used for internal purposes such as quality assurance. The creation of comprehensible product and verification documentation is also becoming increasingly important for the fulfillment of legal requirements, customer requirements or for external inspections, and is now mandatory for many companies. At the touch of a button, MDESIGN generates comprehensive calculation documentation including the input and result data, the underlying standards and guidelines and the available graphics. The scope and content of the report can be individually configured. Corporate design requirements are thus easily met.
